Yoga camp was born out of a desire to bring people with a shared passion for yoga and the outdoors together. We all need a place to come back to where we feel a sense of belonging. This is one of our very human needs. We need our tribe, we look after each other and take care of each other. This is what community is all about.
Yoga Camp is about coming back to simplicity. We slow things down, nourish our bodies, minds, hearts and souls in ways that city living doesn’t always give us. Being on the outside next to the lake inherently brings us a sense of peacefulness. And it's the simplicity of the weekend that keeps people coming back year after year.
Yoga camp started in 2013, and in its early years was a small group of people from Toronto and southern Ontario who’d trek up to Camp Eden Woods on the shores of Elephant Lake in Halliburton near the southern tip of Algonquin Park. Over time Yoga Camp has evolved to host many more teachers offering a wide variety of classes and many more campers. What’s amazing is that the community has grown and simultaneously maintained a level of intimacy that is possible when you share yoga, movement, meditation and good food.
Many of our campers and teachers come back year after year and we get excited as the community opens its heart to welcome new people in. This intimacy is something that makes Yoga Camp different from other adult camp experiences. You can feel the personal touches throughout the whole weekend and a sense of togetherness perfuses everything the camp offers.
